Out With the Old

On today’s post, I am declaring that we are in the process of buying a house in Fullerton and we are having our home inspection today. Maybe it is a bit premature to post this, because technically we are still in escrow and technically the house might not pass the home inspection. But if I blog about it, maybe it will mean that it will go splendidly well, since it’s practically in print already. The writing is on the wall people!

I am truly an optimist. After today all goes well, keeping my fingers crossed, I will feel much better about really declaring to the world that we finally bought a house. I seriously will declare it over the loud speaker and tell the whole wide world. Oh wait, I have some blog readers in France who might be reading this. 🙂

I wanted to post some older photos I had that really describe what I am feeling right now. These photos are from a series titled Discarded Season and I think really illustrate how we as Americans think of an object as precious one moment and then forgotten the next. I never realized how much stuff I had till I actually looked in my closets and realized that I had to pack everything soon. I open the closet, ponder what I should give to the Salvation Army, and then say to myself, that I am not ready to get rid of my dad’s old leather jacket. Ugh, I can’t let go. Purging is a must and it will happen, but I’m not quite ready to forget.

And to all you film photographers who might be reading this, I shot these on black and white film AND printed them myself in my darkroom.

so exciting for you – great idea on the photos, they make you think (something I personally require out of photos) BTW don’t EVER get rid of your dad’s jacket!

Love the images and the series…You are so profound and accurate in your observation of our sometimes disposable and superficial tendencies.
Best wishes on your house purchase!

I love these prints. I remember you telling our class about this series that you were working on back in 2005-2006. Miss the dark room! Good luck with the house!
