Who is Going to be the Next Top Model?

I have been teaching photography for the past eight years. I seriously have a dream job! Back when I was getting my credential, I knew I wanted to teach photography, but everyone told me that I would never find a photography position. I even had a job counselor tell me I should teach science if I wanted a job. I actually had the guts to tell him that it was that sort of advice that allows so many teachers to go into fields that they are not passionate about, thus delivering disinterested lectures to students who end up hating school. I really believed that I was made to teach photography and that God wouldn’t of put me on this road if He wasn’t going to provide. Two weeks later, I had an interview for a photography position and was hired on the spot.

Fast forward eight years, I can still say, I have my dream job. I get to come to school every day and hang out with awesome high schoolers, build relationships and teach them my greatest passion. I love my job because I get to open my student’s eyes to the world I love and teach them how to see.

A few years ago, we had a West African dance troop come to our school for a performance and since I used to take West African dance, I took advantage of the opportunity to teach the students a few moves. This is one of my all time favorite photos of myself.

Since I am talking so much about my wonderful job, let me show you a little slide show of our most recent project, Studio Portraits.

What a great project! I can only imagine how much fun your students have working with you. You’re a person who follows your passion, and it shows! 🙂

I heard once that if you are passionate about how you make a living, it will never be “work”. When you are passionate about what you teach, you INSPIRE students to follow their dreams. I am glad you told that counselor off! Boo on him!
