Historic Fullerton

Almost three years ago, John and I moved from Silverlake to the community of Whittier. We left a beautiful apartment where I lived for seven years, a community I loved and a culture that just oozes cool. Because of a crazy landlady situation, we had to move and move fast. Considering I had worked in Whittier for 6 years at that point, it only made sense for us to move closer to my job. At that point John had just graduated from USC, and easily found teaching positions at two different universities in Orange County. Even though it was really hard for us to move so far away from the cultural center of Los Angeles to the suburbs, I now can say that there is much to love about where we live. Our quality of life has greatly improved, especially mine with an 8 minute commute to work. Whittier has been really good to us, but we have actually fallen in love with the town next door, Fullerton.

We actually like Fullerton so much that we want to buy a house there. For over a year we have been searching for that perfect house with lots of windows, hardwood floors, tons of character, a big backyard, and something that was actually liveable and not a fixer upper. I love my husband; he is really good with words, not so much a hammer. Last week we actually put a bid on an incredible house and it was accepted. Now before you jump up and down that we have achieved the American Dream, you must know it’s a short sale, so now we must wait. Hopefully it will be sooner than later, but we must wait. In the meantime, I will fantasize about how I will decorate all the rooms and continue to draw floor plans of how to lay out the furniture and reginite my addiction to my favorite websites, Apartment Therapy and Young House Love.

As we wait, I wanted to show you some photos that I actually took last year of historic places in Fullerton. They are currently hanging in the foyer of Rock Harbor Fullerton, which is our awesome church and one of the reasons we love this place so much. I am excited that someday soon I will actually be a part of this community that oozes coolness just as much as Silverlake.

This is walking distance from our house. It’s Fullerton High SchoolIsn’t this just beautiful?! I am surprised movies are not filmed here. This last shot was taken at the train station which would be five minutes from our house, so we can just hop on the train to visit friends in LA and not have to deal with traffic.
