Vacation in China: Beijing

As we celebrate Americaโ€™s independence, I thought it would be fun to post my pics from my trip to China, a place where there is restricted freedom. As you might have noticed, I havenโ€™t been around for a while. Well, thatโ€™s because I took a trip to China with 8 of my photography students. Yes,…

Fullerton Bees: Backyard Beekeeping

Managing your own personal honey machines can be a dangerous endeavor, so we thought. Last week, John went to turn our composter and noticed some bees flying into it. Lots of them. After opening up the composter and seeing hundreds upon hundreds of bees, we quickly figured out we had a problem. Over the course…

wow Amber!! I remember seeing your post on FB about this, so cool that it worked out so well! I was so surprised when you showed the open “hive” the comb was HUGE!! Glad everything worked out! ๐Ÿ™‚

OMG! Thank goodness you were able to get rid of them. Oh, and thank goodness I wasn’t at the Fox Pad when all of this was going on, because I am deathly afraid to bees! Seriously1 I turn into a five year old.

I love this! What a great lesson and happy solution.

This is so fascinating! And good for you for finding a humane way to rid yourself of the bees.

The crazy thing about that amount of honey is knowing how many bees are IN that colony to make that gallon or two — I was in this natural foods store in Asheville over the weekend and saw this little honey bee captured in a jar of a teaspoon of honey and it had a card that said “One honeybee produces a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime” — or something to that effect ….so there are LOTS of bees making that bulk happen ๐Ÿ™‚

The Fox Pad

So lots of you have been asking when I was going to post photos of our new house in Fullerton. We just celebrated our four month anniversary in our darling home. We still have lots still do, but we are feeling very settled. And yes, I LOVE being a home owner. I canโ€™t believe how…

Confessions of a High School Photo Teacher: Travel

Six days after graduation, four of my best friends and I flew to London and backpacked across Europe for 6 weeks. I was barely shy of 18, I had traveled to England a few times at that point to visit family, but really this trip was my first time traveling without my parents and it…

Confessions of a High School Photo Teacher

I thought it would be fun to offer up some of the lessons I have learned along the way. Graduation is only a month away, so there is only 4 short weeks or about 20 school days left till graduates have to say goodbye to their high school forever. I remember when I crossed the…

Sometimes we have to follow our hearts on the college route … while I’ll probably never use my finance degree in that field, I don’t regret switching to that major mid-freshman year. The practical knowledge I got from it has helped me with both my business and personal finances. I do sometimes wish I’d listened to my gut and went back for a graphic design associates degree after undergrad.

When asked, I always tell high schoolers, if the thought of business professional dress or uniforms for the next 30-40 years of your life doesn’t appeal to you, pick a field that fits the wardrobe you won’t dread buying. That said, I should be an elementary school p.e. teacher ๐Ÿ˜‰

I love this post Amber! I wish I could have pursued the arts more in high school and into college. I still got to dabble with graphic design for my major, but photography and painting and drawing? Not so much. I’m glad you stuck with your passion โ€” look how it’s paid off!

    Wonderful sentiment!
I tell my father all the time I don’t want to study business. Why would I when I am having a blast in sociology class! Educations is a gift and a choice, one that can be fun!
And You are in a fantastic position to be preaching this =)
